Product description
Nessmuk is an old knife named after the American writer and hunter George W. Sears. Nessmuk was the pseudonym of George Washington Sears, a sports correspondent for the magazine “Forest and Stream” in the 1880s. Many publications claim that the famous nickname “Nessmuk” was given to George by friendly Native Americans of the Narragansett tribe, who lived at that time in the territories of Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. In reality, the story was somewhat more complex. The name Nessmuk belonged to a young Native American from this tribe who befriended George and taught him Native survival techniques in the wilderness. In translation from the Narragansett language, “nessmuk” means “wood duck.” Under this term, both the field knife of his design with an unusual blade shape—the “Nessmuk”—and George himself entered history. Later, George began using the name Nessmuk as his literary pseudonym.
Sears wrote “Woodcraft and Camping” after many years of canoeing and camping in the Adirondacks in 1884. He had extensive experience handling knives not only on trips but also during three years working on a whaling ship. “Woodcraft and Camping” became the first mass-market book dedicated to forest survival. This book is still reprinted and remains popular, despite some of its information becoming outdated due to significant improvements in camping gear since then.
This recognizable classic American camping knife is popular among tourists, hunters, and fishermen in many countries around the world. The Nessmuk knife is widely used for hunting, tourism, and other outdoor activities. Its design and features make it a convenient and effective tool for various tasks in the wilderness and beyond. This type of knife is mainly used for gutting game and preparing food. For this reason, knives with a Nessmuk-style blade are most popular among hunters or people who frequently go on hikes. This model is produced with a convex grind, which provides excellent cutting ability and durability.
The blade of the Nessmuk Nord Hunter Expert knife has a drop-point shape and is made of Elmax steel, which is known for its high hardness, excellent wear resistance, and superior corrosion resistance. Elmax is a powder steel that provides exceptional cutting performance and long-lasting sharpness, making the knife a reliable and durable tool.
The handle is made of Micarta, a highly decorative and structural composite material. Micarta is not only beautiful and durable but also provides excellent grip and resists temperature changes. The ergonomic shape ensures comfortable handling even during prolonged use. The main highlight of this handle is the 3D proprietary texturing, which allows the knife to hold firmly even with wet hands—an absolutely critical feature. Knife construction — Full-Tang, with two strong rivets and a lanyard tube.
The Nessmuk Nord Hunter Expert comes with leather sheaths that ensure safe storage and transport of the knife as well as easy access at any time. Inside the sheath is a special insert that protects it from accidental cuts from the inside. The sheath design allows carrying the knife on a belt or backpack, making it even more versatile.
The Nessmuk Nord Hunter Expert Expert knife by Southern Cross is the perfect choice for those who appreciate quality, reliability, and functionality in their tools.
